Where are we?

We’re an adit - a tunnel and elevator, so we’re
accessible from two places.

Tunnel Entrance: 42 Anzac Parade.

Just opposite the city over the Whanganui City Bridge.

War Memorial Tower Entrance: 2 Blyth Street, Durie Hill.

The smaller tower close to Whanganui’s famous War Memorial Tower. This is also where you’ll find our office, and 2 Blyth St is also our postal address.

Parking, Pathways and
Public Transport

For those who need it, there is vehicle parking near the elevator, both at 2 Blyth Street and at 42 Anzac Parade. It can run out, particularly on a Saturday and particularly on a long weekend.

Our nearest bus stop is just a 5 minute walk away on the other side of the bridge - 2 St Hill Street, which is Whanganui’s main bus stop.

Our Tunnel Entrance is very close to shared pathways that line the river on both sides. In fact, we’re a shared pathway ourselves - bikes and scooters are welcome in the tunnel.

How should you visit us?
Use us like a local!

The best way to visit us is in the way we were designed - as a means of transport. Here’s what we recommend:

From the city

  • Leave your vehicle in the city or at your accommodation. Travel to us on foot, or even better, cycle to see us - your bikes are welcome on the elevator. If you have a dog on a lead, they’re welcome to visit us too.

  • Walk over the Whanganui City Bridge, the city’s first point of walking access across the river.

  • Look for the white archway, and walk through it to reach the tunnel.

  • The elevator will take you up to Whanganui’s best viewing point, and you’ll have the choice of a walk down the stairs, or a return trip on the elevator.

From Durie Hill:

  • As an alternative - use us as a way to travel to the city: if you’re staying in Durie Hill, or you wish to park a vehicle at the top, you can use the elevator to get to the city, and back. From Durie Hill, you’re less than 10 minutes from the main street of Whanganui.
